The FDA made changes to the food pyramid several years ago because new studies showed many of the quantities and foods in the food groups were not as healthy as once believed. Matt shares how incredibly misinformed people are about many conditions and diseases, such as obesity, Type II diabetes, allergies, heart disease and cancer. Join Jason Hartman for an interesting interview with Harley Schlanger, the Western States Bureau Chief for the controversial and interesting LaRouche Pac. Harley defines the purpose of LaRouche Pac, describing it as based on the intersection of philosophy, history and science, looking at economics as physical processes and not just monetary. Lyndon LaRouche stands for a sovereign state in the United States and has been warning of the smoke and mirrors politics that have been going on since the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Harley discusses the deregulation that has been going on in this country for years, as well as many of the predictions that LaRouche Pac has made that have come true or are in the process of coming true, including the stock market crash in the ‘80s, the era of speculation that began with the end of the Glass-Steagall Act, and the freezing and collapse of the banks most recently. Jason and Harley talk about the environmental movement and who profits, the disappearing middle class, and the loss of production in the United States with NAFTA. Harley says we’ve lost the understanding of wealth, citing examples of production going offshore, energy production going back to solar and wind power, and how we don’t even consume most of what we produce because it’s shipped overseas. Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 36, originally published in November 2010. Jason Hartman talks with Steve Kates (aka “Dr. Sky”) who, with his brother Joe, are active with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in the Special Forces Unit and help to fight crime in the sixth largest metro area in the nation. He has been engaged in the science of Astronomy for well over thirty years. His first true observations occurred while just seven years old, viewing the moon and planets in a ten dollar telescope. The first real event he saw, was the 1966 Leonid meteor shower from his home in New York City, atop a tall building. This encouraged him to make the SKY his passion and has been so ever since. Starting in film and television and at a young age, Steve Kates has worked in many acting and model roles for major studios and had some roles in TV commercials of the 1960’s, through his agent. While a native of New York City, Steve Kates moved to the suburbs of New Jersey in 1967 and found the night sky once again. Having formed the Hackensack Astronomy Club, he and his friends did lots of research on the night sky and were regular contributors to the popular magazine, “Sky and Telescope”, specializing in Lunar / Solar observations and Meteor Astronomy. Susan Crawford is the Professor at the Cardozo School of Law, former Special Assistant for Science, Technology, and Innovation Policy to President Obama, columnist for Bloomberg View, former Board Member of ICANN, and founder of OneWebDay. She is also the author of, "Captive Audience: The Telecom Industry and Monopoly Power in the New Gilded Age." Crawford believes the telecom industry now has a monopoly. American are paying much more for Internet access yet getting much less. Other countries are beating America in this space. Crawford helps answer whether the FCC will ever enforce free wifi for anyone in the US. In 2009, Crawford served as special assistant to President Obama for science, technology, and innovation policy. She is a former law partner at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering (now WilmerHale). She is the founder of OneWeb Day, a global Earth Day for the Internet held each Sept. 22. In January 2013, Yale University Press published her book, “Captive Audience: The Telecom Industry and Monopoly Power in the New Gilded Age." She earned a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, and a law degree from Yale University. Economic tensions, nuclear and EMP threats, and acts of terrorism, both domestic and abroad, have people concerned about their safety and survival. During the Cold War, bomb shelters or fallout shelters became very popular. Today, your own home can provide the protection you need from whatever threats about which you are most concerned. Jason Hartman is joined by Brian Camden, Principal of Hardened Structures Hardened Shelters LLC, to talk about fortified homes, underground bunkers, protection and action plans, and how many shelters are designed. Brian explains the construction designs and the level of security available. These hardened structures can be built as a nice-looking home or second home or as an addition to an existing home, most often with underground shelters, that are fully sustainable off the grid. Brian shares some of the most important reasons that more and more homeowners are requesting fortified homes or shelters. The Team consists of a core group of independent, specially trained shelter design firms for structural engineering, blast engineering, EMP/HEMP shielding, CBRN, HVAC, electrical and alternative energy designs.
