Jason Hartman discusses the impact that the spike in unemployment will have on mortgage delinquencies and how one feels personally about job security. Real estate listings are at a staggering low, what does this mean?

Hope Jahren is today’s guest, and she is here to discuss her book, The Story of More, and how the Earth feels about the mess that we’ve made. Hope shares her thoughts on consumption trends and the overuse of a lot of products. How can we fix this? Decisions about small things can work exponentially.

Key Takeaways:

[2:30] Expectations of losing a job or leaving voluntarily.

[5:00] Real estate listings have declined by 70%.

[11:15] The spike in unemployment is signaling a potential increase in mortgage delinquencies.

Ellen Brown is today’s guest here to discuss Universal Basic Income, UBI. As well, she shares some interesting details about what happens to the money when a debt is paid. How did China increase its money supply by such a large percentage in two decades?

Key Takeaways:

Guest: Ellen Brown, author of over a dozen books including, The Public Bank Solution, From Austerity to Prosperity

[2:30] What is a postal account?

[10:45] What is the end game of money spending?

[12:10] Money is lent into existence. Banks create the principal but they don’t create the interest, so debt always grows faster than the money supply.

[15:00] The real economy is always short of money because there’s a hole in the bucket that always drains into the financial economy.

[16:00] What is the financialized economy?

[20:20] Debt grows until it gets so high that people can’t borrow anymore, so they pay down their debts instead of taking out new debts. That shrinks the money supply. That goes into deflation which goes into depression.

[22:30] Money evaporates when it pays off the debt.

[26:30] All of our money is credit. China increased its money supply by 1800% in twenty years, and they did not run into hyperinflation. Find out more.

Doug Casey, author of Crisis Investing: Opportunities and Profits in the Coming Great Depression, joins Jason to discuss the biggest hysteria since the Salem Witch Trials. Casey shares his opinion on The Great Recession and the role it might play in the potential Greater Depression. Learn why Casey advises one to invest in mining, and his feelings on bonds, stocks, cash, gold, and cryptocurrency in comparison.

Key Takeaways:

[1:20] “The biggest hysteria since the Salem Witch Trials” - Casey

[4:45] Casey presupposes that the worst of the 2008 recession is yet to come, and that for the last 8-10 years, we have been in the calm, the eye, of the storm.

[6:30] “This could be more than a financial meltdown. Possibly an economic and social meltdown as well.”

[7:00] The U.S. is no longer a country, but more-so a multi-dimensional, domestic, empire.

[9:20] Bonds are a triple threat, about the worst place for your money at this time.

[11:30] Bonds, stocks, cash, gold, cryptocurrency?

[15:15] Have we entered the greater depression? This could potentially be the biggest upset since the industrial revolution.

[20:50] Surviving a depression, the most important thing is to have assets where there is no counter-party risk. Something in which you don’t have to trust a bank, insurance company, or your pension fund.

While we are all challenged in ways to adapt to our shelter-in-place advising, several benefits are being popularized out of necessity. Telemedicine, or telehealth, is growing rapidly, and not just for humans. Veterinary practices are using telemedicine for your pet's health as well.

Steve Hochberg returns to elaborate on the Elliott Wave. How do we know when we have too much debt, the U.S., or the individual?

Key Takeaways:

[1:00] Is Kim Jong-Un alive?

[5:30] Telemedicine, we’re finally there

[8:00] The Phillips curve

[14:00] Monetary policy comes from central banks, and fiscal policy comes from the government

Jason Hartman shares sound advice on the top four reasons that a company fails. Steve Hochberg joins Jason to break down the methods of the Elliott Wave Principle. Listen to how the Elliott Wave Principle used collective investor psychology to predict 2020 stock market trends, without the influence of Coronavirus, as early as late 2019. Will we continue to see the stability of linear markets vs the volatility of cyclical markets, post-pandemic? Do recessions cause cautious businessmen or do cautious businessmen cause recessions?

Key Takeaways:

[2:30] From a discussion: the four primary reasons a company fails

[4:00] Number one, FEAR - Faults, education, appearing, real

[5:15] Number two, mindset

[9:00] Number three, lack of connections

[11:30] Number four, Lacking systems and process

[15:20] What is going on in the financial world?

[17:00] Unfolding the Elliott Wave Principle

[18:20] “Late 2019, the U.S. economy had some very strong economic numbers, the social mood was very elevated, but there were some underlying problems going on”

[19:20] The yield curve: the three month U.S. Treasury bill yield minus the ten year U.S. Treasury note, had inverted, which was a key indicator in the last months of 2019.

[23:00] Cyclical vs linear markets, post-pandemic

[28:00] Do recessions cause cautious businessmen or do cautious businessmen cause recessions?

[30:00] An Elliot Wave is a hierarchical fractal, it has self-similar patterns at all degrees of the scale

The big talk right now is that of supply & demand shock. Jason walks us through the current market trends and the developments leading to the inevitable supply/demand shock. Simple at-home lab experiments, like watching the prices change in airline tickets help illustrate this shock at work.

Dan Amerman joins Jason in part II to discuss crisis investing. [22:20] Japanification is a very real scenario for a period of time

[26:00] Major corporations, when compared to the entrepreneur, have access to far lower cost liabilities, in that they can get free or cheap debt (getting paid to borrow or negative interest rates)

[26:40] What action should people be taking now?

[28:30] What’s the way to distinguish inflation in terms of asset price inflation and consumer price inflation?

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 142, originally published in April 2013.

Historical studies of countries, governments, economics, populations, cultures and more offer numerous insights into how the world reached its current state. A more traditional view is The Accidental View of History, which holds that no one really knows why events happen – they just do. There is also the Conspiratorial View of History. Jason Hartman interviews historian, author and lecturer Ralph Epperson about Ralph’s book, Unseen Hand: An Introduction to the Conspiratorial View of History. Ralph addresses the conspiracies behind the numerous wars and revolutions across the globe, the depressions and recessions, and he discusses the creation of the Federal Reserve and the foundation of the I.R.S.

Ralph Epperson is an historian, author, and lecturer who has been researching the CONSPIRATORIAL VIEW OF HISTORY (the view that the major events of the past have been planned years in advance by a central conspiracy) for 50 years. He has written or produced four "best-selling" books entitled THE UNSEEN HAND, THE NEW WORLD ORDER, MASONRY: CONSPIRACY AGAINST CHRISTIANITY, JESSE JAMES, UNITED STATES SENATOR, six booklets, and 15 DVDs.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 262, originally published in July 2015.

Bernard Kerik was an NYPD Commissioner who was sentenced to 48 months in prison for an ethics violation. For over 30 years, Bernard put bad and violent criminals away, but when he was on the inside he noticed not everyone was bad or even deserved such harsh prison sentences. He tells Jason that the criminal justice system is setup to destroy people's lives, not to reform them. What should be simple fines or suspension of licenses has turned into lengthy prison sentences. Bernard shares his story and why he firmly believes the criminal justice system needs to change.

Key Takeaways:

[1:54] How did Bernard go from being an NYPD Commissioner to an inmate?

[7:50] Prison has become a business.

[11:15] Prison creates monsters, which is why the recidivism rate won't drop.

[14:15] Today we're taking people for ethics violations and we're turning them into convicted felons.

[20:05] Bernard has concluded that you really don't have any constitutional rights anymore.

[22:40] Has police brutally always existed or is it just more in the news?

[26:55] How is it possible that the U.S houses 25% of the world's prisoners?

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 118, originally published in January 2013.

It is commonly known that cannabis (marijuana) helps with glaucoma and the side effects of chemotherapy. What isn’t widely known is that our bodies possess an endocannabinoid system, which regulates almost every system of our health. The phytocannabinoids produced in marijuana are very similar in molecular structure to the cannabinoids that our bodies produce. Author Clint Werner joins Jason Hartman to discuss studies that have proven the health benefits of marijuana, including for the treatment of Alzheimers, protecting the health of diabetics and fight the spread of breast cancer cells. Clint talks about the demonizing of marijuana that started in the ‘30s by Federal agents and a journalist spreading “reefer madness” throughout the country. He also discusses needed reforms. Other facts about marijuana include protecting the brain by reducing inflammation and by stimulating the production of healthy new brain cells and reducing the risk of chronic, long-term smokers for developing lung cancer. Additionally, Clint talks about the differences between strains of marijuana grown in various climates and conditions, including indoors in artificial light versus outdoors in sunlight; the health benefits of THC; smoking versus vaporization; and the numerous forms in which it is available, such as tinctures and salves.

Clint Werner has degrees in journalism and library science and has worked in the field of preventive health care for over 25 years. He studied macrobiotic cooking and practice in Boston in 1985, relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where he co-authored the San Francisco Police Department’s health and fitness plan in 1987 and worked teaching AIDS, cancer and heart disease patients how to improve their health with diet and lifestyle changes. His writing has appeared in the book Cannabis Therapeutics in HIV/AIDS, the Journal of Cannabis Therapeutics, Macrobiotics Today, Canine Chronicle, the San Francisco Sentinel and other publications. For this episode, Jason Hartman is joined by Sonia Barrett to talk about her forthcoming documentary, The Business of Disease. Sonia is an author and the host/producer and founder of Sovereign Mind Radio. She wrote an article in 2010 entitled “The Marketing of Breast Cancer, the pink ribbon agenda, and received staggering positive feedback.  It led to the production of The Business of Disease. Sonia takes a look at how marketing and media, such as the pink ribbons, drive a huge business for the awareness and treatment of breast cancer. She points out that various businesses make tons of money from different events and fundraisers, and hospitals make more money from mammograms. In the documentary, Sonia took a look at how all of the awareness efforts for breast cancer affect the brain, not just for women, but for their spouses and children.  This is a segue into talking about Sonia’s book, The Holographic Canvas: The Fusing of Mind and Matter. She explains that our belief system is shaped by society, family, and upbringing, and without asking questions, those belief systems establish what reality is going to look like for each of us. This can make our reality less than authentic and more of “going with the flow.” Reality is what we focus on and whatever each person focuses on at any given moment in their life is what is real to them. Sonia encourages examining belief systems.

Jason Hartman and economist and best-selling author, John Lott, discuss Lott’s book, “Freedomnomics: Why the Free Market Works and Other Half-Baked Theories Don’t.” In his book, Lott answers many common economic questions, such as are free market economies really based on fleecing the consumer, and is everyone, from corporate CEOs to your local car salesman, really looking to make a buck at your expense. He bravely confronts the profound distrust of the market. Lott shows how free markets liberate the best, most creative, and most generous aspects of our society, while efforts to constrain economic liberty, no matter how well intentioned, invariably lead to increased poverty and injustice.

John R. Lott, Jr. has held positions at the University of Chicago, Yale University, Stanford, UCLA, Wharton, and Rice and was the chief economist at the United States Sentencing Commission during 1988 and 1989. Lott has published over 90 articles in academic journals. He is also the author of The Bias Against Guns, More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws, and Are Predatory Commitments Credible?: Who Should the Courts Believe? The third edition of More Guns, Less Crime will be published by the University of Chicago Press this April. James is best known for his books The Geography of Nowhere (1994) and The Long Emergency (2005). Kunstler so gives lectures on topics related to suburbia, urban development, and the challenges of what he calls "the global oil predicament" and a resultant change in the “American Way of Life.” He has lectured the TED Conference, the American Institute of Architects, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the National Association of Science and Technology as well as at numerous colleges and universities, including Yale, MIT, Harvard, Cornell, University of Illinois, DePaul, Texas A & M, West Point, and Rutgers University.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 504, originally published in October 2014.

In the today’s Holistic Survival Show, Jason Hartman speaks to author and former Department of Justice attorney, Sidney Powell. Together, they dive into some of the most scandalous and outrageous cases which have based through the Department of Justice in recent decades. Step-by-step, they overview several of the cases featured in Powell’s book Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice and consider the true state of our society.

Takeaways

01.00 – Sidney Powell’s book, Licensed to Lie: Exposing Corruption in the Department of Justice, deals with some of the most scandalous and historic events to come out of the United States’ Department of Justice.

09.20 – Within the Merrill Lynch case, it got to the point where favourable statements were hidden for six years while four Merrill Lynch executives were sent to prison without even a listed criminal offence.

13.00 – Sometimes there are two sides to a story and you need to dig a little deeper to find out what really happened.

16.55 – You have to question when a judge says he’s never had such a fine person before him for sentencing, and then passes a sentence.

20.20 – www.pogo.org (Project on Government Oversight) has identified over 400 instances of misconduct by prosecutors in the last decade.

22.00 – Despite having a criminal conviction against his name a few days before the re-election, Ted Stevens only lost his place on the Senate by a few votes.

27.45 – The Bar associations are less than useless in these situations because they just give the same response.

32.00 – Judge Sullivan is turning around the Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the IRS and doing his best to achieve a just result.

34.10 – There are too many aspects of the IRS case that just seem conveniently timed for it to be believable.

34.40 – Many of Sidney’s articles about these issues can be found at www.Observer.com

36.40 – If the IRS is being used to target political opponents, who gave that order?

38.45 – Information about the book and how to purchase it can be found at www.LicensedtoLie.com. Tweet Sidney using the handle @SidneyPowell1 and be sure to ‘like’ Licensed to Lie on Facebook.

Jason Hartman welcomes Economist Mike Norman to the show to discuss Modern Monetary Theory or MMT. Mike shares examples of common misconceptions people have of the US monetary system and economy, such as the US debt clock, that inflation equals growth, and how the tax system works. He believes that the US has an unlimited supply of capital and balancing the budget or functioning as a fixed monetary system would accomplish the opposite of what is needed to create growth.

Key Takeaways:

[1:40] Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) explains the value of money.

[4:39] A tax system is required to create demand for money.

[9:31] A fixed monetary system creates cycles of economic depressions and recessions.

[11:53] The US national debt is a summation of what is owned by the US and its constituents.

[19:25] A dollar must be created and pumped into the economy before it can be used to pay a tax debt.

[21:46] The US has an unlimited amount of new capital.

[27:13] There is a difference between inflation and growth.

Together, they discuss some of the potential solutions to alleviating the situation, as well as considering what could have been done better at the point of outbreak. Hieb also talks about changing attitudes to her party and why these are so important.

Key Takeaways

02.30 – Jason Hartman asks the question everyone is thinking: Ebola – real threat or just a lot of hype?

03.19 – If we’re going to stop the spread of Ebola, we have to stop the movement of people.

06.42 – We have found some treatment options for Ebola, but if we reach a level where we have thousands of victims, it’s just not feasible.

08.19 – Increasing your vitamin D levels can go a long way to increasing your overall health, with studies even linking it to lower cancer risks.

15.28 – Don’t be fooled into thinking Ebola spreads like HIV – it is far more easily spread and there’s a lot we still don’t know about it.

22.00 – Now there are some fears about if we use the military and impose martial law as an excuse to ‘fix’ other issues.

26.02 – Hospitals in the US simply don’t have the training or the equipment to be able to deal with this disease.

27.52 – Members of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons believe that medicine is between a doctor and a patient, not a doctor, patient and a government bureaucrat.

30.25 – The Libertarian party and its values is starting to be better understood by the American people.

Bulger and his gang had willing accomplices in the FBI, public servants who not only looked the other way, but actually colluded in the crimes. Leiberman explains the government's motives and how Bulger got away with so much and if similar collusion is happening in today's government.

Leiberman then talks about his work for the Howard Stern Show. Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 96, originally published in July 2012.

How can robotics teach us about history, while showing us the future potential of technology? Hollywood depicts robots overthrowing the world. Is this actually possible? Join Jason Hartman as he interviews Professor of Biology John Long about how using robotics can help us understand evolutionary processes. Professor Long and his team build autonomous robots, including biomimetric robots, to study animals, living and extinct, learning how they behave and adapt. Professor Long’s specialty is fish, such as sharks, eels and dolphins. The robots are built to mimic the real creatures, some built as predators, some built as prey, and all are built to behave. As these robots make their own decisions, scientists can study the evolution of the robots to their ecological environment. Jason and Professor Long talk about the “growth” of the autonomous robots, generation to generation. They also touch on robotic cars that are becoming so efficient and adaptive that they are potentially better drivers than human beings. Professor Long discusses the usefulness of evolving robots. Humans are curious and robots can do things that people don’t want to do or can’t do. There are many practical applications for robotics, including rescue operations, space exploration, medical procedures and replacing dull human activities. There are also issues that can be debated about the use of robots or drones for surveillance or attacks. Jason and Professor Long discuss the possibility of a “proxy war,” how robots are currently used in warfare, and when we can expect to see autonomous robots that can learn and adjust accordingly on the battlefield.

John Long is a Professor of Biology and Cognitive Science at Vassar College. He serves as the Director of Vassar’s Interdisciplinary Robotics Research Laboratory, which he co-founded, and the Chair of the Department of Biology. Long and his robots – called Madeleine and the Tadros – have garnered widespread press coverage in the New York Times and Washington Post, among other publications. He and his robots have taught evolution on the Discovery Channel and the History Channel. He lives in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Born an only child into a house full of animals in Port Washington, New York, Jocelyn Kessler recognized at a young age that she had the ability to energetically communicate with animals. She could somehow “hear and understand” what the animals were saying when she spoke to them. At such a young age she had no idea about energy interpretation  or communication with forces outside the physical realm.

Later in life as a pre-teen, Jocelyn had a “near death” experience that allowed her to access certain special gifts that had previously been hidden and were now in the conscious mind. Her ability to interpret energy in animals increased due to her altered consciousness, and many of her spirit guides – both animal and human – began making themselves known to her.  With her heightened awareness, Jocelyn found herself able to feel and see more than ever in humans as well.  It was at this time that she began to use her newly found abilities to connect humans and animals.  Jocelyn soon discovered that another source of the connection emanated from her physically.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 66, originally published in December 2011.

Jason Hartman interviews Victor Davis Hanson, professor and author, regarding how the crises around the world, especially in Greece and the European Union, have had a profound impact on employers, and how Greece’s crisis will impact larger countries. People in Greece are uncertain in these times because the president has created a climate where the people don’t know what the tax code is going to be, what the regulations will be, or what the national policy is going to be about investment savings. With governments unable to pay their debts, the affluent feel they’re in the proverbial crosshairs. Victor feels that here in our own country, Obama has succeeded in shutting down American capitalism. Victor also discusses with Jason how California’s economy is pathetic, including the infrastructure and schools, and how employment and salaries are affected, and talks about the out-migration from the state. He gives examples of what is really happening within California, from the street level to the government level, including how unions and crime and complications from illegal immigration have compounded the problems. Immigration has put a huge strain on the public health system, employment and the resources of the state, and Victor feels California needs to close its borders to recover.

Victor Davis Hanson is the Martin and Illie Anderson Senior Fellow in Residence in Classics and Military History at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, a professor of Classics Emeritus at California State University, Fresno, and a nationally syndicated columnist for Tribune Media Services. He is also the Wayne & Marcia Buske Distinguished Fellow in History, Hillsdale College, where he teaches each fall semester courses in military history and classical culture. Hanson is the author of hundreds of articles, book reviews, scholarly papers, and newspaper editorials on matters ranging from ancient Greek, agrarian and military history to foreign affairs, domestic politics, and contemporary culture. He has written or edited 17 books, including Warfare and Agriculture in Classical Greece (1983; paperback ed. University of California Press, 1998); The Western Way of War (Alfred Knopf, 1989; 2d paperback ed. University of California Press, 2000); Hoplites: The Ancient Greek Battle Experience (Routledge, 1991; paperback., 1992); The Other Greeks: The Family Farm and the Agrarian Roots of Western Civilization (Free Press, 1995; 2nd paperback ed., University of California Press, 2000); Fields without Dreams: Defending the Agrarian Idea (Free Press, 1996; paperback, Touchstone, 1997; The Bay Area Book reviewers Non-fiction winner for 1996); The Land Was Everything, Letters from an American Farmer (Free Press, 2000; a Los Angeles Times Notable book of the year); The Wars of the Ancient Greeks (Cassell, 1999; paperback, 2001); The Soul of Battle (Free Press, 1999, paperback, Anchor/Vintage, 2000); Carnage and Culture (Doubleday, 2001; Anchor/Vintage, 2002; a New York Times bestseller); An Autumn of War (Anchor/Vintage, 2002); Mexifornia: A State of Becoming (Encounter, 2003), Ripples of Battle (Doubleday, 2003), and Between War and Peace (Random House, 2004). Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 104, originally published in August 2012.

What is making us sick? We know our lifestyle is the problem, but on this episode of Holistic Survival, we will learn how some common lifestyle choices and cultural beliefs may be a factor in many of our issues, such as migraines, obesity, and breast cancer. Jason Hartman interviews medical anthropologist and author, Sydney Ross Singer, to shed some light on these problematic factors. Sydney begins with his newest research on sleep. “People in our culture sleep too flat,” he states, explaining the impact it has on circulation to the brain and body. All sorts of conditions can result, such as migraines, sleep apnea, compression of nerves that can cause carpel tunnel, compression of organs, change in bone structure, and many other traumas to the body that one wouldn’t even consider. These conditions as a result of how we sleep are confirmed by NASA studies of the effect of gravity on fluid pressure in the brain and other parts of the body.

Sydney also talks about compression injuries from tight clothing, including a link between tight braziers and breast cancer. Tight clothing and shoes restrict circulation, causing a back up of fluids in our tissues. Toxins in clothing and pesticides, and the common tonsillectomy are associated with weight gain. Stress levels affect overall health. Sydney encourages people to take responsibility for their own health by eliminating different lifestyle choices and give the body a chance to heal. He recommends people experiment with Self Studies to see what may be causing problems, such as wearing loose clothing for a month, raising the head and feet instead of sleeping flat for a week, going a month without a bra. Many diseases and conditions, especially chronic conditions, may be prevented and cured by a simple alteration in lifestyle.

Not everyone finds aluminum as fascinating as Dr. Christopher Exley, who happens to be one of the world’s leading experts on the topic. Some how, some way, the good doctor’s infectious enthusiasm is impossible to deny. Listen in on this episode of The Holistic Survival Show as host Jason Hartman interviews Dr. Exley about an intriguing paradox; how is it that the third most abundant element in the Earth’s crust is non-essential and largely harmful to life? His research over the last three decades has led him to investigate the silicon (the second most abundant element in the Earth’s crust) connection to aluminum, or more specifically, is it silicon’s primary duty to to keep aluminum from wreaking havoc with biology?

Exley is currently the Reader in Bioinorganic chemistry at The Birchall Centre, Keel University in Staffordshire and Honorary Professor at the UHI Millennium Institute. He is a biologist (University of Stirling) with a PhD in the ecotoxicology of aluminum. Strangely, this toxic element can be found in medicines, vaccines, deodorant, sunscreen, antacids, and more. The good news is that it can be easily leached from the body -  with silicon rich mineral water - which Exley believes is like a natural antidote.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 180, originally published in October 2013.

On this 10th show, Jason Hartman interviews author and leadership expert, Doug Conant on the topic of leadership models. In Doug’s book, Touch Points: Creating Powerful Leadership Connections in the Smallest of Moments, co-authored with Mette Norgaard, the small daily interactions that many view as interruptions are described as the greatest leadership opportunities in business, or touch points. These moments can be used as a method to promote the company’s values, purposes and agenda, while bringing about higher employee engagement and winning in the marketplace through improved growth. Touch points involve using the head, heart and hands to connect with and transform employees through listening, understanding and helping people advance their interactions in a significantly more effective way. Doug explains the “contribution profile,” which is asking, “How can I help?”

Practitioner Douglas R. Conant delivers a critical and transformative message for today’s times: Anyone, anywhere, can expand their influence and improve their results. Appointed President and CEO of Campbell Soup Company in 2001, he was the 11th leader in this iconic company’s 140-year history. Under Conant’s leadership, Campbell reversed a precipitous decline in market value and employee engagement — with much recognition since, including the prestigious 2010 Catalyst Award.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from June 2012.

Human domestication from a less natural diet and lifestyle has slowly but surely led to degeneration of our species. Jason Hartman is joined by Daniel Vitalis, health and nutrition specialist, for a discussion of getting back to the “wild,” understanding the effect of our processed and hybrid foods, and learning how wild plants are medicinal and healthier for a long and healthy life. Daniel explains that the domestic foods have been designed to be more palatable, while wild foods tend to be bitter. He gives a history lesson on bananas, which were originally full of seeds, less fleshy, and very small, needing to be cooked to be eaten. The yellow banana that we consume today came about in the 1800’s. As an illustrative example of mutated domestication, he points out that all of the dogs we have today came from the gray wolf, which is the same mutation process that has happened with food, called GMOs. Daniel encourages travel and acclimating to other temperatures, foods and water to make the body stronger. This influence on your body through environment is called epigenetics, making body changes at the genetic level.

Daniel explains that people think degenerative diseases are happening because we’re living longer today, but this is a misnomer. Our bodies began premature degeneration around 10,000 years ago when farming began. This is when arthritis and cavities first began to appear. Indigenous people and wild animals do not suffer the same degenerative processes as domesticated people and animals and this is due to the difference in diet and how they live with the environment. Compact cities and urban communities have been a feeding ground for disease, and the main cure for such diseases as polio were from the introduction of plumbing more than from vaccines. Daniel emphasizes that the interaction with natural soil and landscapes provides immunity and a strong sense of wellbeing, reducing the need for manmade medicines. Daniel Vitalis is a Leading Health, Nutrition, and Personal Development Strategist as well as a Nature Based Philosopher. He teaches that our Invincible Health is a product of living in alignment with our biological design and our role in the ecosystem.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 169, originally published in September 2013.

Genae Girard and her lawsuit against Myriad Genetics may just have altered the course of humanity. Genae was the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against the U.S. Patent Office and Myriad Genetics, who had been allowed to patent human genes that were associated with breast and ovarian cancer, then monopolize the testing procedure.

Genae was in her early 30's and diagnosed with having a gene (BRCA) that leads to cancer. When she asked for a 2nd opinion, she was told that not only was Myriad the only company that could do the test, but even they would not retest her.

Incredibly, this was allowed to go on with the blessing of the U.S. Government. In fact many other companies had patents pending for all different kinds of human genes that have been voided due to Genae's lawsuit.

The Unanimous Supreme Court decision in June of 2013 said, among other things, that it is unconstitutional to patent anything that exists in nature. The justices also said that what Myriad had done by creating this monopoly hurt every woman who had the same diagnosis as Genae. They had been able to call all the shots in this field, including which insurance they would accept and had banked all the data relating to their diagnoses.

The ruling broke the monopoly of Myriad Genetics over this incredibly important test. They had been charging an astronomical $3,500 just for the test, but with competition now allowed again, the price should drop to $150. Possibly more importantly, other companies will not be able to patent parts of the human body. How this will effect a mega multinational corporation like Monsanto, who has patented their seeds, has yet to be seen. But needless to say, Genae and her co-plaintiffs have changed the world.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 114, originally published in November 2012.

For some time, there has been a debate about the safety of cell phones and smart meters due to high frequencies produced by these devices. Dr. Sam Milham speaks with Jason Hartman about his book, Dirty Electricity, and how anything that interrupts the flow of electricity causes dirty electricity. Dr. Milham contends that, based on his research, mortality rates increased as more and more residents of urban areas were joined to the electrical grid, including risks of cancer and diabetes. He shares some research, including an increase in cancer in a school, dairy cows not producing milk, and more that led to the discovery of high frequency electrical pollution that was causing an increase in a variety of problems and diseases. Not all electricity is dirty, but anything that produces high frequency waves, such as smart meters, certain appliances, cell phones, digital handheld phones, compact fluorescent lights, solar energy, WiFi, and more, contributes to higher rates of cancer and even obesity. Dr. Milham suggests ways to eliminate dirty electricity in the home.

Dr. Milham is a specialist in occupational epidemiology and is known as the scientist who first alerted the world about the frightening link between occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic pollution, and human disease. Dr. Milham is a graduate of Union College and Albany Medical College. He became a Senior Resident in Epidemiology at the New York State Department of Health in 1961 and then was a development consultant for the department. His experience includes Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Albany Medical College; Associate Professor, University of Hawaii School of Public Health and Medical School; Section Head, Epidemiology Section, Washington; Chronic Disease Epidemiologist, Washington State Department of Health, and more. He has received many awards and has written numerous articles on various medical issues. His mortality rate studies led to the writing of his book, Dirty Electricity, to alert people to the possibility of a looming epidemic of morbidity and mortality due to high frequency radiation, and what steps to take to reduce our exposure to dirty electricity.

He stresses that the importance is following the right principles, not the right predictions. There are six things that will determine the future value of your investment portfolio:

  • The amount of money that you save
  • The length of time that you let it compound
  • Asset allocation

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 89, originally published in April 2012.

Join Jason Hartman and Craig R. Smith, Chairman of Swiss America Trading Corporation, for a discussion of the U.S.’s monetary policy, distorted pricing, creating money out of thin air, the outrageous national debt, inflation, and more. Craig says he is thoroughly convinced that governments around the world will print their way out of debt and it will destroy the middle class. He is very concerned about the current state of things unless politicians take a different stand. Craig also talks about how the gold and silver industry is unregulated and encourages investors to be fully aware of the risks and costs associated with buying coins. Big runups in gold have brought the crooks out, and Craig highly recommends investors do their homework before investing with a company, including being in business for more than ten years, a solid delivery policy, etc. Jason and Craig also discuss gold and silver manipulation by Central Banks, in which banks can go in to the markets and buy or sell large possessions of gold. Gold and silver are a threat to the fiat money system, so the banks are antagonistic of the markets. Lastly, Craig touches on the subject of hyperinflation, relating how past tools to fight inflation no longer work because it would cripple the economy. Sadly, Craig feels the only way out of our unbelievable national debt is a total collapse or a systematic collapse by inflating currency slowly over a long period of time.

The Swiss America Trading Corporation is an investment firm specializing in U.S. gold and silver coins. Mr. Smith founded the company in 1982 out of a bedroom in his home with $50.00. It has since grown into one of the largest and most respected firms in the industry known for its dedication to consumer education and safety. Craig is an expert in many forms of tangible assets including oil, precious metals and United States numismatic coins. He’s a student of history and author of four books, The Inflation Deception: Six Ways Government Tricks Us… And Seven Ways to Stop It! (7/11), Crashing the Dollar: How to Survive a Global Currency Collapse (10/10), Black Gold Stranglehold (11/05) and Rediscovering Gold in the 21st Century (8/01). Mr. Smith is sought after by national media for his insights on breaking news because he instantly engages audiences with his common-sense analysis of major political and economic trends. He is a former columnist for Worldnetdaily.com, and writes economic columns for Swissamerica.com Mr. Smith does not go to Washington D.C. often, but when he does he always comes back with a fresh perspective on why self-government is key to solving our modern crises – not more government spending. Craig understands that fellow Americans want solid answers to the tough questions, having hosted two national talk radio shows during the 1990s: “America Talks” and “World Economic Perspective.” Mr. Smith’s free market economic worldview offers Americans a breath of fresh air amid today’s failed ‘big government’ approach. He believes we need a revival of self-government and free market principles to help rebuild the American economy; unlike the current administration’s belief in multi-trillion dollar “cradle-to-grave” government dependence.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 122, originally published in January 2013.

Think about the times you have lied about something.  Were they little white lies to save face or to protect someone? Was there a big lie that led to another lie or that, once learned, hurt someone deeply or caused a serious trust issue?  On this episode, Jason Hartman interviews expert interrogator, Greg Hartley, author of How to Spot a Liar: Why People Don’t Tell the Truth…and How You Can Catch Them. Greg explains that on the continuum of normal, there are three reasons people lie:  Love, hate and greed. He also says there are people who lie for self-preservation, while there are people who lie for sport to see what they can get away with in life. Greg describes the positions of interrogator and confessor. He mentions there are 14 different ploys that interrogators use that are tied to the ego, love, hate and greed. He also points out body language to look for in liars. One quick tip is if a person seems too perfect, overly accommodating, be wary and trust your instincts.

Greg Hartley's expertise as an interrogator first earned him honors with the United States Army. More recently, it has drawn national level intelligence organizations and international Media to seek his insights about “how to” as well as “why.” He graduated from the U.S. Army Interrogation School, the Anti-Terrorism Instructor Qualification Course, the Principle Protection Instructor Qualification Course, and SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) school. His skills as an expert interrogator earned praise while he served as SERE Instructor, Operational Interrogation Support to the 5th Special Forces Group during operation Desert Storm, Interrogation Trainer, and as a creator and director of several joint-force, multi-national interrogation exercises from 1994 to 2000.  Among his military awards are the Knowlton Award. He attended law school at Rutgers University.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 33, originally published in September 2010.

Jason Hartman talks with Peter Yanev who has more than forty years of experience in earthquake and structural engineering, and risk management. In 1981 he co-founded EQE International, a global risk management provider, and grew the company to 750 professionals before leaving in 2001. He currently advises organizations worldwide, including engineering firms, the World Bank, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of California, Berkeley. A former president of the Northern California chapter of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, Yanev has performed more than one hundred earthquake investigations, has published extensively, and is a frequent media commentator on natural disasters. He holds degrees in structural and earthquake engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He lives in Orinda, California.

Some topics covered in this episode are: Supplies of food and water is not preparedness – safety is of course a concern but the real problem is what happens to your home, business, and investment. What can you as a homeowner do? What about the small business owner? Is insurance the right solution? Should you retrofit? Or do both? How can a home or business owner do some simple risk planning to help understand their risk?

The same issues apply more to apartment and condo owners especially those who are buying in new buildings – do they understand that the code is not meant to protect their investment (or business) and that it only means the building won’t kill you? Your building or home still might be destroyed. Do they understand that many new buildings are unsafe from a risk perspective? We can elaborate on what the code means and what people should know about it – specifically what you should know if you plan on building or investing in real estate (home, office, etc).

About the book Peace of Mind in Earthquake Country, the best-selling book which for thirty years has helped homeowners everywhere protect their properties and loved ones from the devastating effects of earthquakes, is now completely updated and greatly expanded. The new edition reflects the latest advances in earthquake science, engineering, and financial management techniques for homeowners, home buyers, and businesses in earthquake country.
