Today's Flash Back Friday comes from June 2012.

Human domestication from a less natural diet and lifestyle has slowly but surely led to degeneration of our species. Jason Hartman is joined by Daniel Vitalis, health and nutrition specialist, for a discussion of getting back to the “wild,” understanding the effect of our processed and hybrid foods, and learning how wild plants are medicinal and healthier for a long and healthy life. Daniel explains that the domestic foods have been designed to be more palatable, while wild foods tend to be bitter. He gives a history lesson on bananas, which were originally full of seeds, less fleshy, and very small, needing to be cooked to be eaten. The yellow banana that we consume today came about in the 1800’s. As an illustrative example of mutated domestication, he points out that all of the dogs we have today came from the gray wolf, which is the same mutation process that has happened with food, called GMOs. Daniel encourages travel and acclimating to other temperatures, foods and water to make the body stronger. This influence on your body through environment is called epigenetics, making body changes at the genetic level.

Daniel explains that people think degenerative diseases are happening because we’re living longer today, but this is a misnomer. Our bodies began premature degeneration around 10,000 years ago when farming began. This is when arthritis and cavities first began to appear. Indigenous people and wild animals do not suffer the same degenerative processes as domesticated people and animals and this is due to the difference in diet and how they live with the environment. Compact cities and urban communities have been a feeding ground for disease, and the main cure for such diseases as polio were from the introduction of plumbing more than from vaccines. Daniel emphasizes that the interaction with natural soil and landscapes provides immunity and a strong sense of wellbeing, reducing the need for manmade medicines. Daniel Vitalis is a Leading Health, Nutrition, and Personal Development Strategist as well as a Nature Based Philosopher. He teaches that our Invincible Health is a product of living in alignment with our biological design and our role in the ecosystem.

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 169, originally published in September 2013.

Genae Girard and her lawsuit against Myriad Genetics may just have altered the course of humanity. Genae was the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against the U.S. Patent Office and Myriad Genetics, who had been allowed to patent human genes that were associated with breast and ovarian cancer, then monopolize the testing procedure.

Genae was in her early 30's and diagnosed with having a gene (BRCA) that leads to cancer. When she asked for a 2nd opinion, she was told that not only was Myriad the only company that could do the test, but even they would not retest her.

Incredibly, this was allowed to go on with the blessing of the U.S. Government. In fact many other companies had patents pending for all different kinds of human genes that have been voided due to Genae's lawsuit.

The Unanimous Supreme Court decision in June of 2013 said, among other things, that it is unconstitutional to patent anything that exists in nature. The justices also said that what Myriad had done by creating this monopoly hurt every woman who had the same diagnosis as Genae. They had been able to call all the shots in this field, including which insurance they would accept and had banked all the data relating to their diagnoses.

The ruling broke the monopoly of Myriad Genetics over this incredibly important test. They had been charging an astronomical $3,500 just for the test, but with competition now allowed again, the price should drop to $150. Possibly more importantly, other companies will not be able to patent parts of the human body. How this will effect a mega multinational corporation like Monsanto, who has patented their seeds, has yet to be seen. But needless to say, Genae and her co-plaintiffs have changed the world.

Chris and Jason also discuss the future, and whether we're going to see inflation, deflation, or a little bit of both.

Key Takeaways:

[2:40] We're coming up to a time when humans are going to have to organize ourselves in very different ways

[5:21] There are 2 ways humans change

[10:33] It's getting costlier and costlier to get less and less oil out of the ground

[13:09] The easy, cheap energy from the past is gone, which explains why the global growth rate for the last 15 years has been subpar

[19:10] We're beginning to see that raising children in a dopamine heavy technological world is creating issues we hadn't expected when it began

[24:03] We have a lot of debt in our society, so deflation is ready to take over

Jason Hartman talks with Norman Rogers, author of the new book Dumb Energy, A Critique of Wind & Solar Energy. Norman argues that our nationwide obsession with wind and solar energy is actually harmful to our economy and the world and that we should focus on coal and nuclear energy to get the best benefits. He explains that the only reason things like solar energy are feasible is because of massive federal subsidies and that the reason we don't hear much about it is that grant money isn't given to those who want to study opposing viewpoints.

Key Takeaways:

[1:41] Solar and wind energy are erratic energy that aren't economical

[5:29] Adding CO2 to the atmosphere via fossil fuels encourages plant growth

[9:25] People are only making money in wind energy because of massive subsidies and preferential treatment

[12:47] We shouldn't be shutting down coal plants for natural gas plants and DEFINITELY not for solar

Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 114, originally published in November 2012.

For some time, there has been a debate about the safety of cell phones and smart meters due to high frequencies produced by these devices. Dr. Sam Milham speaks with Jason Hartman about his book, Dirty Electricity, and how anything that interrupts the flow of electricity causes dirty electricity. Dr. Milham contends that, based on his research, mortality rates increased as more and more residents of urban areas were joined to the electrical grid, including risks of cancer and diabetes. He shares some research, including an increase in cancer in a school, dairy cows not producing milk, and more that led to the discovery of high frequency electrical pollution that was causing an increase in a variety of problems and diseases. Not all electricity is dirty, but anything that produces high frequency waves, such as smart meters, certain appliances, cell phones, digital handheld phones, compact fluorescent lights, solar energy, WiFi, and more, contributes to higher rates of cancer and even obesity. Dr. Milham suggests ways to eliminate dirty electricity in the home.

Dr. Milham is a specialist in occupational epidemiology and is known as the scientist who first alerted the world about the frightening link between occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic pollution, and human disease. Dr. Milham is a graduate of Union College and Albany Medical College. He became a Senior Resident in Epidemiology at the New York State Department of Health in 1961 and then was a development consultant for the department. His experience includes Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics, Albany Medical College; Associate Professor, University of Hawaii School of Public Health and Medical School; Section Head, Epidemiology Section, Washington; Chronic Disease Epidemiologist, Washington State Department of Health, and more. He has received many awards and has written numerous articles on various medical issues. His mortality rate studies led to the writing of his book, Dirty Electricity, to alert people to the possibility of a looming epidemic of morbidity and mortality due to high frequency radiation, and what steps to take to reduce our exposure to dirty electricity.
